Packaging memories throughout the years…

Staff Blog Takeover: Insights from Rebecca Willis, Internal Accounts Executive

At Watershed, each team member brings a unique perspective regarding packaging and its significant role in product protection and brand communication.

In this blog takeover, Rebecca Willis, our fantastic Internal Accounts Executive, shares her reflections on the profound impact packaging has had on her life. From childhood memories to professional observations, Rebecca delves into the packaging techniques and styles that have left a lasting impression on her.

Rebecca's like family here at Watershed, having been part of our team for over 12 years. She's worked across different areas of the business, so she has experienced many different packaging styles and techniques along the way.

Unwrapping Nostalgia: Packaging memories throughout the years.

When most people think of packaging, they often think of Cardboard, Aluminium, and Plastic waste wreaking havoc at every turn. And whilst this is a current problem that companies & governments worldwide, including Watershed, are always striving to improve on and help tackle that problem, we often forget how ‘iconic packaging’ has played a part in most of our childhood and nostalgic memories.

When asked to think about Barbie, for example, the image of the original blonde doll pops into the forefront of my mind. Still, the image of the unmistakable pink glossy cardboard box with a large shiny PET window perfectly framing your new toy is etched into my memories.

The first time you tried an ice-cold can of Coke, Fanta or San Pellegrino, pulled off the fancy die-cut aluminium lid and held that condensation-beaded can in your hand, trying to make it last as long as possible on a hot summer day, accompanied by a bag of your favourite crisps (Walkers for me) in what was then a thick clear OPP bag, not the foil-lined fresh laminated flexible films of today.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is packaging can be every part as important and iconic as the product inside so it’s paramount to nail it when designing yours.

Why not give Watershed a shout next time you want a supplier who can help build legendary memories for you and your brand!!
