Why Watershed Packaging stands out as a privately owned business.

When choosing a business partner, working with a privately owned company like Watershed can provide significant advantages over dealing with the limitations of large corporations.

In December 2023, Watershed Packaging turned 30. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and since our formation in 1993, we have seen the company change and adapt throughout the years.

As a family-owned and operated business, our core values are deeply ingrained in everything we do. We believe in building long-lasting relationships with our clients, treating them as an extension of our family. This personal touch allows us to truly understand their unique requirements and deliver tailored packaging solutions that exceed their expectations.

Our history

Watershed Packaging was founded in Leeds by John Waters in December 1993. Starting as a small packaging machinery and consumables supplier, the company's vision and determination led to a remarkable transformation.

Over the years, the company experienced rapid growth. In 1996, Watershed acquired Logo Tape, allowing us to manufacture printed tape. Subsequent acquisitions and investments in the most advanced printing technology at the time, such as MPS UV Flexo Presses, bolstered Watershed's position in the label industry.

Watershed's dedication to expansion and innovation led to further acquisitions, including Aurora Colors (2008) and The Label Store (2009), which further increased our product offering to customers. By 2024, Watershed Packaging holds a significant presence in the printing industry with multiple manufacturing sites equipped with cutting-edge printing presses, including 9 MPS Flexographic presses across Leeds and Wales.

What does it mean to be a privately owned business?

Flexibility: Private companies often have more flexibility in decision-making and can quickly adapt to changing project initiatives and market conditions. They can implement innovative strategies and respond swiftly to customer needs without being burdened by extensive bureaucratic processes.

Entrepreneurial: Private companies are founded and led by entrepreneurs who are passionate about their business and deeply invested in the success. This entrepreneurial spirit can translate into innovative solutions, creative problem-solving and a focus on continuous improvement.

Personalised service: Private companies often emphasise building strong customer relationships. They may offer more personalised and attentive customer service compared to larger public corporations, leading to a more tailored experience, rapid response, and better satisfaction.  Privately held companies can adapt to the needs of their customers rather than create frustration that results from dealing with the rigid systems found at large corporations.

Competitive pricing: Privately owned companies can offer competitive pricing for their products and services, as they may have lower overheads and be more wiling to negotiate on pricing than larger corporations.
